In memory of

Thilda "Till" Mulcahy

of Midland, South Dakota, died on Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Philip Nursing Home in Philip at the age of 95

Thilda Gudrun “Till” Fosheim was born March 2, 1915, at the family homestead near Deep Creek, the seventh of eleven children born to Thor and Gjertina (Gabrieldst) Fosheim. She grew up on the homestead and received her education at Stoney Butte School. After leaving school she worked at many jobs. These included cooking at a Midland motel and also cooking for private families in Deadwood. She was an excellent cook and each member of her family has a ‘favorite’ dish she prepared. She babysat for everyone and throughout the years had many of her nieces and nephews live with her. Till was loved by everyone that knew her. She was a kind, generous and gentle woman who helped anyone who needed it.
Till was united in marriage to Danny Mulcahy on February 15, 1948 at Quinn, South Dakota. After their marriage she worked with Danny at Behl Hardware in Midland. In 1950, they along with Kink Anderson, started the A&M Grocery in Midland. In 1953, they purchased Kink’s share and operated the store until 1960, when they moved to Ft. Pierre. While in Ft. Pierre, Till worked at Ft. Pierre Livestock for four years as a bookkeeper. They then moved back to Midland and bought back the store which they operated until Danny’s death in 1966. Till sold the store one year later to Gust Larson, but managed it for him until 1980, when it was closed. She then worked at the Country Place until retirement in 1987.
Till was a member of the Deep Creek Lutheran Church and the Midland Senior Citizens.
Till enjoyed her hobbies of reading, doing puzzles, and canning. She enjoyed dancing, and loved crocheting and making hand-painted towels which she gave as gifts to members of her family. She loved playing Bingo and riding the bus to Philip and Deadwood. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Till started the Fosheim family gathering which always took place on Easter. She continued this until she moved to the Philip Nursing home in 2004. This gathering still continues in the Fosheim family today.
Survivors include her daughter JoAnn Bork and her husband Paul of Midland; five grandchildren Angela (David) Anderson of Loveland, Colorado, Jennifer (Allen) Geuther of Ft. Pierre, Kimberly (Luke) Nelson of Aberdeen, Daniel Bork of Sioux Falls, and Shelby Bork of Midland; six great-grandchildren; one sister Ida Hunt of Midland; a brother-in-law Roy Roseth of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Danny, Till was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters Esther Schanzenbach, Anna Walker, Emma Root, Olga Meyers, Minnie Fosheim, and Clara Roseth; one brother Pete Fosheim; and two siblings in infancy, Margit and George.
Visitation was held 4-6 p.m. on  Thursday April 22,  at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Philip and one hour before the services on Friday.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 23, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland with Pastor Frezil Westerlund officiating.

  • JoAnn, Paul and family:
Our thoughts and prayers have been with you during these past weeks as you have supported Til in her journey home. She is at peace now in Heaven with her loved ones that were waiting for her. She was such a wonderful person. I will always remember the way she smiled and greeted the customers when she worked in the store. Caleb has memories of going with Danny when they were little to visit Til and she had that amazing "drawer full of candy." She and Mom were as close as sisters back in the day and Mom had a special place in her heart for Til. I am so glad that they were able to be roommates in Philip. I believe that God had a hand in making that happen. I cherished the visits I had with Til when I would go and see Mom. May God hold you close during this difficult time as you adjust to life without her. She will be smiling down on you from above.
