In memory of

Lucille E. Carstensen

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Sunday, May 23, 2004 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 83

Lucille E. Faust was born February 4, 1921 in Cottonwood, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Ida (Oberembt) Faust.

She attended country grade school and Cottonwood High School.

Lucille was united in marriage to Emery E. "Jack" Carstensen on June 21, 1939 at St. Colombia Catholic Church in Cottonwood.

They made their home on the Carl Carstensen homestead, northwest of Philip. In 1945 they moved one-half mile east of that homestead to the Babcock place which they purchased. They farmed and ranched there all their married life.

After Jack’s death on April 24, 1994, she continued to live on the ranch until 2002 when she moved into the Senechal Apartments, where she resided until the fall of 2003 when she moved into the Silverleaf Assisted Living Center in Philip, where she has since resided.

What brought Lucille joy was her children, grand-children, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as ranching, crocheting, and playing cards with her friends and family. Lucille was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Evening Guild of Philip.

Grateful for having shared her life include her four children Charles Carstensen and his wife Ruth Ann of Philip, Doris Kraft and her husband George of Rapid City, Arlys Seaton and her husband Al of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Orrin Carstensen and his wife Cheryl of Gillette, Wyoming; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband "Jack", Lucille was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m., all at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Philip, with Father Ron Gary as celebrant.

Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery, Philip, South Dakota.
