In memory of

Orville "Tim" Long

of Lovington, New Mexico, formerly of Philip, South Dakota, died on Saturday, May 17, 1997 at the Nor-Lea General Hospital in Lovington, New Mexico at the age of 76

Orville A. Long, better known as "Tim" to his family and friends, was born May 12, 1921, at Philip, South Dakota, the son of Ivory and Lena (Hintz) Long.  He grew up in the Philip area and graduated from Philip High School.

He was united in marriage to Mathilda I. "Tillie" Kurth on January 1, 1942, at Kadoka.  They made their home in the Philip area all their married life.

They both worked at the Farmers Union Oil Company for many years.  After Tim retired from Farmers Union he worked for Little Scotchman Industries for a few years and then returned part-time at Farmers Union Oil Company.

They made their home on a farm which they operated southeast of Philip.  They resided most of their married life on the farm.

After his wife's death on October 15, 1987, Tim continued to reside on the farm.  He was united in marriage to Clara Kurth-Hemmingson on September 7, 1989, in Rapid City.

They made their home on the farm during the summer months and spent the winter months at their home in Lovington, New Mexico.

Tim was a very active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Philip and held many positions on the church board.  While in Lovington he was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Clara Long of Lovington, New Mexico; two daughters, Sally Campbell and her husband, Arthur, of Aukville, Wisconsin, and Linda Kramer and her husband, Dan, of Moorpark, California; two grandchildren, John Kramer and his wife, Tonya, of Battle Mountain, Nevada, and Jason Kramer of Moorpark, California; four step-sons: Tony Hemmingson of Lovington, New Mexico, Loren Hemmingson of Eunice, New Mexico, David Hemmingson of Philip, and Arnie Hemmingson of Spearfish; one step-daughter, Jeanette Ernest of Belleville, Illinois; 15 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leroy Long of Philip, Al Long of Rapid City, and Bob Long of Kadoka; one sister, Doris Millage of Philip; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his first wife, Mathilda "Tillie" Long, he was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Long as an infant, his parents, and one step-grandson.
