of Philip, South Dakota, died on Sunday, December 8, 1996 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 60
Lyle Marvin Schulz was born July 6, 1936, on his parents' ranch south of Philip to Herman and Mildred (Welsh) Schulz.
He grew up on the ranch. He enjoyed his school years and graduated from Philip High School in 1955.
Lyle was united in marriage to Enid Hancock on May 31, 1956, at Philip and to this union three children were born, Janice, Larry, and Roger.
Lyle farmed and ranched in the Ottumwa area all his adult life. The ranch was his life and he was dedicated to its work.
Lyle was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Milesville.
Lyle will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was known for his fierce love and determination for life.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Janice Schofield and her husband, Mike, of Philip; two sons, Larry Schulz and his wife, Rose Ann, of Midland, and Roger Schulz of Philip; five grandchildren: Eric, Amy and Denice Schofield, all of Philip, Lydia and Kevin Schulz of Midland; two brothers, Kenneth Schulz of Philip and Gordon Schulz of Denver, Colorado; his mother-in-law, Billie Hancock of Albia, Iowa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Myron Lee Schulz as an infant; and a sister, Elaine Omdahl.
A memorial is established.
