of Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, March 18, 1996 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 68
James D. Ingram, better known as Jim to his family and friends, was born September 4, 1927, at Bonesteel, South Dakota, to Vernon and Martha (Mayers) Ingram.
He grew up in the Bonesteel area where he graduated from the Bonesteel High School. While in High School he worked for the Sutton Ranch.
Jim was united in marriage to Luverna Kahler in 1949 and to this union were born four children: Jerry, Lora Jean, Steve, and Leann.
They made their home in Winner prior to moving to Rapid City in 1952. While in Rapid City, Jim worked as a Civil Service employee at Ellsworth Air Force Base as an electrician. He also owned and operated Ingram Excavation in Rapid City. In 1964 the family moved to Philip, South Dakota, where they owned and operated the Coast to Coast Store, which later became known as Ingram Ace Hardware. They also operated Ingram's Excavation in Philip until 1987.
Jim was united in marriage to Marjorie Schmidt Wampler on May 6, 1988, at Rapid City, South Dakota, and they continued to make their home in Philip.
Jim continued to operate the Ingram Ace Hardware Store with his son, Jerry, until the time of his death.
Jim was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder for many years and was a member of the Philip Chamber of Commerce.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marjorie Ingram of Philip; two sons, Jerry Ingram and his wife, Pam, of Philip, and Steve Ingram and his wife, Sheila, of Pierre; a daughter, Leann Olson and her husband, Terry, of Rapid City; seven grandchildren: Amber Ingram Rush, Aaron Ingram, Kristine Ingram, Travis Ingram, Kerry Ingram, Michelle Dietrich and Megan Olson; two step-daughters, Annette Tulenko and her husband, Al, of Chicago, Illinois, and Dr. Mary Ann Wampler and her husband, Dr. Philip Bierman, of Omaha, Nebraska; two step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Mariann Wray; two sisters, Lola Bailey and her husband, James, of Sun City West, Arizona, and Violet Woehl of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Lora Jean Ingram; his parents, Vernon and Martha; one brother, Kenneth Ingram; a sister, Elsie Woehl; and a step-son, Carl C. Wampler.
A memorial is established.
