of Murdo, South Dakota, died on Friday, January 27, 1995 at the St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre at the age of 82
Verna Irene Newsam was born August 19, 1912, at Hartington, Nebraska, to Frank and Effie (Cressy) Newsam. As a child she moved with her parents to a farm-ranch northeast of Murdo. She grew up on the farm-ranch and attended rural school in that area prior to graduating from Murdo High School.
As a young lady, Verna worked with her father in the operation of her mother's homestead, located northeast of Murdo.
Verna was united in marriage to Alvah "Babe" Reynolds on April 24, 1943, at Pierre, South Dakota. They made their home on a farm-ranch north of Murdo which they operated until April of 1993 when they retired and moved into Murdo.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Alvah "Babe" Reynolds of Murdo; a son, Lyle Reynolds of Greeley, Colorado; three daughters, Charlene Ortman of Sioux Falls, Linda Sperry of Marietta, Georgia, and Lea Reynolds of Elk Point, South Dakota; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Newsam of Murdo and Fred Newsam of Apache Junction, Arizona; three sisters, Vera Anderson of Spearfish, Beryl Noldner and Edyth Noldner, both of Murdo; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Opal Anderson.
The family request memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
