Violet A. Hook

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, September 8, 1993 at the Blackhills Rehab Hospital in Rapid City at the age of 82

Violet A. Pippert was born November 17, 1910, on her parents' homestead in the Peno Basin area north of Quinn, South Dakota, to William and Anna (Rehm) Pippert.

She grew up on her parents' homestead and received her education at the Rickard Rural School in that community prior to graduating from Quinn High School.  As a young lady she worked at the Grindstone Store.

Violet was united in marriage to Lawrence E. "Red" Hook on May 5, 1931, at Kadoka, South Dakota.  They made their home on a farm-ranch in the Creighton area prior to moving to the Peno Basin community.

They lived in Minnesota for 12 years prior to moving back to the Quinn community where they made their home north of Quinn for seven years before moving into Quinn.  In February of 1961 they moved to Philip.

Her husband, Red, preceded her in death on January 3, 1971, and she had continued to make her home in Philip.

She was a memeber of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Philip.

Grateful for having shared her life are her five sons, Larry Hook of Philip; Dwilyn "Pee Wee" Hook of Philip; Darwin Hook of Wall; Jerryce Hook of Rapid City; and Monte Hook of Philip; a daughter, Juanita Carroll of Marysville, Washington; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, William "Bill" Pippert of Quinn; a sister, Wilma Lynch of Quinn; and a host of other relatives and friends.
