Cuma Anspach was born in Iowa on May 4, 1898, to Milton and Ella Anspach. She grew up and was educated in the Ida Grove, Iowa, area,
On January 1, 1917, she was united in marriage to Ross N. Hicks at Ida Grove, Iowa.
In 1917 they moved to a farm near Brookings, South Dakota, where they farmed until 1930 when they moved to a farm-ranch near Kadoka. They opearted the farm-ranch until 1953, then retired and moved to Kadoka.
Her husband died in 1978 and Cuma continued to live in Kadoka. She moved into the Gateway Apartments in April 1980.
Cuma was a member of the Baptist Church in Brookings and a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Kadoka.
Survivors include two sons, Russell and Melvin, both of Kadoka; two daughters, Deloris Ekstrom of Aurora, Colorado, and Mildred Young of Kadoka; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross, three brothers, and three sisters.
A memorial has been established.
