Philip, South Dakota
of Henderson, Nevada, formerly of Philip, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at her home in Henderson, Nevada at the age of 34
Katrina ‘Trina’ Michelle (Foley) Burns was born November 1, 1980 to Tom and Ann (Fitzgerald) Foley in Rapid City, SD. She grew up 35 miles northwest of Philip for the first six years of her life while enjoying watching her favorite baby kittens grow up. Her family moved into the town of Philip in 1986 where she attended school and graduated from high school in 1999. While in high school, she played basketball, volleyball, and track and earned many accolades--winning Philip's first Girls Basketball District title, playing at 5 state volleyball tournaments, winning Philip's first State Title in volleyball, and running at state track. Trina spent the summer of 1995 babysitting for her sister, Kim, and had a special relationship with her nephew, Karch. She taught him how to memorize and quote movies. She could always start the quote and Karch would finish it.
Trina attended Black Hills State University to obtain a social science degree and graduated in 2004. While at college, she played volleyball for the Yellow Jackets. Her biggest and proudest moment(s) was to become a mom. Her first son, Brayden, was born December 7, 2000. She worked for the daycare Brayden attended while at college so she could spend as much time as possible with him.
While at college, she met the love of her life, Tom Burns on the 10th of May 2003. They were married in Spearfish, South Dakota on September 3, 2004. They made their home in Spearfish where she worked at Sanford’s Pub and Grub while Tom worked for Hills Materials. She gave birth to their second son Kyler on June 27, 2005. Trina and Tom moved to Henderson, Nevada in December 2006. Zaelur blessed their lives on August 3, 2007.
She was an amazing mother of the most amazing boys in the world and a world class chef in the eyes of her family. She was the biggest cheerleader for her family whether it dealt with sports, school, or life in general. No one will ever forget her laugh or her non-stop sense of humor which will never quit even after her passing. Katrina was the most selfless person on this world. She put everyone in front of her own problems. She touched many others lives, from the homeless on the street, people down on their luck, or someone she had never met face to face on the other side of the world. It did not matter the time of day or night, she was always willing to help.
She spent her final years of her life taking care of her family at home. Spending each day making sure her family stayed on the right path and the right direction. Her actions have reflected upon her children, her husband, and others around the world. She may not be here in person but with the never quit attitude she possessed, she will be there every day to insure her family does not falter. She will be missed dearly by her family, friends and the others lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Burns of Henderson; three sons Brayden, Kyler and Zaelur of Henderson; her parents Tom and Ann Foley of Philip; four brothers Mark Foley and his wife Vanessa of Vermillion, Richard Foley of Philip, Steve Foley and his wife Staci of New Ulm, Minnesota, and Robert "Bob" Foley and his wife Joan of Ortonville, Minnesota; one sister Kim Bouman of Philip; father-in-law Chuck Burns and his wife Sue; mother-in-law Debra Harney and her husband Casey; sister-in-law Melissa Burns; brother-in-law Matthew Burns and his wife Brenna; nieces and nephews Christian, Tommy, Emilie, Dalton, Connor, Garrett; Kelly, Stephanie, Cody, Karch, Chris, Keely, Kiera, Keenan and Autumn; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by three infant brothers, Paul, Nicholas, and Gorman; her maternal grandparents Edward and Catherine Fitzgerald; paternal grandparents Pat and Eva Foley; and a brother-in-law Jim Bouman.
