In memory of

John P. Neumann

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at his home southwest of Philip at the age of 45

John Paul Neumann was born May 9, 1974, in Kadoka, South Dakota, the oldest of three children born to Samuel and Gail (Flatt) Neumann. John grew up on the family ranch north of the badlands and attended Kadoka schools, graduating from Kadoka High School in 1993. After high school, he did ranch work in the area as well as New Mexico and Colorado, until taking over the family ranch in 2002. During this time he also ran the Badlands Trail Ride at Interior for a number of years.

In 2013, John met Tabatha Swartz while trading horses. They were blessed with a son Stetson on December 19, 2018. He was John’s pride and joy.

John enjoyed fishing, riding horses, and his goats.

Survivors include his fiancé Tabatha Swartz and their son Stetson; two step-children Porshia and Chevy; his mother Gail Neumann of Pierre; his brother Bill Neumann of Pierre; his sister Cindy Bechard of Loveland, Colorado; his aunt Jean Neumann of Kadoka; and four nieces and nephews Rebecca, Nathan, Samantha, and Matthew.

John was preceded in death by his father Samuel “Sam” Neumann on January 28, 2019; and his uncle Ernest “Ernie” Neumann.

  • So sorry to hear of your loss. I met John when I worked at Minuteman Missal. He helped me get his cows out of Delta 1, when they would walk through oue little electric fence. He also helped me put that fence back up. It took us 20 minutes, where it took the young man that was our seasonal 2.5 hrs. to put up. John was very kind when I came to the house to ask him to help me. Our thoughts and Prayers are with you all. ~ Tom & Jackie Shull Wall (6/12/2019)
