of Custer, formerly of Midland, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at his home in Custer at the age of 66
Mark Vincent Nemec, son of Edward and Elizabeth (Puryear) Nemec, was born February 1, 1952, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, South Dakota.
He grew up on the family farm northeast of Midland and attended Pheoba Country School through the 8th grade, prior to graduating from Midland High School in 1970. Mark then attended SDSU in Brookings, where he met Glenda Morehouse.
Mark was united in marriage to Glenda on April 28, 1973, in Andover, South Dakota. They farmed and ranched at the family farm northeast of Midland for the next 29 years. They later moved to the beautiful Black Hills where he resided until his death.
Mark loved camping and 4-wheeling in the Black Hills, softball and dancing in his younger years, and friendly competition with his four daughters. He was always ready for a game of cards and proved himself playing pac-man on Atari. He took great pride in all his grandchildren and loved looking at their pictures. His grandchildren were his pride and joy from giving rides on the 4-wheeler to building them toy trains to showing them how everything worked. He always loved when they came to visit.
Grateful for having shared his life is his wife Glenda Nemec and their four daughters Stacy Nemec of Pierre; Beth (Brad) Hand of Pierre; Jackie (David) Good Shield of Ajo, AZ; and Ellie (Tel) Saucerman of Rapid City; eight grandsons, Isiah Hand, Samuel Hand, Sawyer Saucerman, Tristan Good Shield, Elijah Hand, Tyrell Good Shield, Tanner Good Shield, and Calum Saucerman; four granddaughters, Emma Saucerman, Meleah Saucerman, Adrian Hand, and Raygen Saucerman; five brothers Benjamin (Kathy) Nemec, Joseph (Evie) Nemec, Leo (Betty) Nemec, Anthony (LaVon) Nemec, Michael (Susan) Nemec; seven sisters, Elizabeth VanderMay, Frances Terkildsen, Pauline (William) Bruce, Christine Ryan, Audrey (Gene) Jones, Bernadette (Dick) Knox, and Rita Foreng; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Elizabeth; one brother Edward Jr. Nemec; four sisters, Nora Wyman, Sister Edna Nemec, Wynn Bergeson, and one sister in infancy; and five brother-in-laws, Loyd VanderMay, Raymond Terkildsen, Gary Ryan, Charles Wyman and Arthur Bergeson.
