In memory of

Larry Denny

of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 77

Larry Dennis Denny was born February 21, 1940, in Eagle Bend, Minnesota, one of fifteen children born to Theresa (Bartlett) and George Denny, Sr. He grew up in the Eagle Bend and Clarissa, Minnesota area, and received his education in the Bartlett Township rural school in that area. He then attended high school in Clarissa.

After his schooling, he went to North Dakota and worked as a ranch hand. He later returned to Clarissa where he worked as a farm-ranch hand in that area.

After meeting a waitress in a restaurant, he knew right away he was going to marry that girl. Less than two weeks later, he was united in marriage to Karen F. Brandt in Webster, South Dakota, on April 15, 1965. They made their home in various places throughout the Midwest, where he worked as a ranch hand.

They later owned and operated a dairy farm in Minnesota. After some time he went to work in the oil fields, until getting hurt. He then decided to go to Barber School, and owned and operated three barber shops in White Hall and Belgrade, Montana. He retired as a Master Barber. They then moved to Wadena, Minnesota, where they both worked as machine operators and steel cutters. After Larry’s second heart attack, he retired from steel cutting, and began custom hay baling. He did that until moving to Kadoka, South Dakota in 2006.

He was a jack of all trades, from breaking horses, to welding, to cutting hair, to mowing lawns, and moving snow. Larry’s life wasn’t easy, having 68 major surgeries throughout his life, but that didn’t stop him from fishing, hunting, drinking, and dancing. He was a very talented guitar player and dancer.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 53 years, Karen of Kadoka; a daughter Marilyn Bail of Montana; a son Shawn Denny of the Philippines; two grandchildren Amanda Untiedt of Lakefield, Minnesota, and Justin Denny of North Dakota; two great-grandchildren Jadelyn and Xander Untiedt; numerous siblings; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and several siblings.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating.
