of Darrington, Washington, formerly of Philip, South Dakota, died on Thursday, October 27, 2022 in Darrington after a lengthy illness at the age of 79

Clifton C. Smith, better known as “Chuck” to his family and friends, passed away October 27, 2022 in Darrington, Washington, after a lengthy illness.

He was born June 13, 1943, to Chester and Violet (Brown) Smith and grew up on the family farm North of Philip, graduating from Philip High School.

Survivors include his family in Washington state; an older sister Doris Giardino of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother Virgil (Carla) Smith of Philip; sisters Glenda Helms of the Wall/Quinn area and Linda Whitehead of Piedmont.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Summer Rae of Washington state; his parents; and an older sister Hope Warner of Tucson, Arizona.

Private family services and burial were held in Darrington, Washington.

My sincere sympathy to Chuck's family. I went to North Schoening School 1st through 8th and Chuck went to South Schoening all of his grade school years our schools had Holiday parties together so our lives touched often. Mom and his Dad were on the Schoening school board together so our families went back and forth over the years. We had a good visit whenever we crossed paths. I missed him when they moved away!
