Leroy P. “Boots” Livermont was born August 26, 1940, in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, the oldest of eight children born to Oliver and Emma (Wiedman) Livermont. He was raised 14 miles east of Wanblee on the Alex Livermont Ranch. He attended 1st grade at Martin, and then to St. Francis Boarding Indian Mission until the 5th grade when they moved to Kadoka, where he finished his education.

At the age of 17, Boots enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he was part of the Big Red 1 stationed at Ft. Dix, and later stationed in Germany. He later was honorably discharged and moved back to the Alex Livermont Ranch. After the ranch got sold in 1968, Boots then worked for various ranches in the area. He later moved into Kadoka, where he has since resided. While in Kadoka, Boots worked for Jerry Patterson for a number of years, and also drove truck. Boots was a proud member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include a brother Michael (Amelia) Livermont of Belvidere; three sisters: Sharon (Delmar) Bowes of Rapid City, Janie Whidby of Rapid City, and Mary (Dick) Gropper of Long Valley; two brother-in-laws Joe Stoddard of Norris, and Jerry Grass of Martin; several nieces and nephews; his special family, Mark and Tammy Carlson and their kids, and the Jerry Patterson Family; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Boots was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Linda “Wink” Stoddard, and Charleen Grass; a brother Alex “Bod” Livermont; a brother-in-law Wayne Whidby; and a niece Lori Stoddard.

  • We were so sorry to hear that Boots past away. I have lots of fun memories of growing up with all of you. Cousins are the best of friends. I talked to Gus as Boots is also a Vietnam veteran. He was over there is 1959 and 1960. Not sure about the time limit. Your Mom worked with me at the H&H, and when I asked where where they sent Boots she said Vietnam. But I have never heard of that country, well neither had us girls so looked it up on a world map. At that time the government was saying they were only sending advisors over there. When Boots got home he told me he was in a lot of battles. The last time I got to see Boots I gave him one of books printed about SD Vietnam veterans. His name isn't in it as he didn't know it was being put together, and you had to send your information in. If they ever reprint this book you should add his name to it. We are holding all of you in our hearts and prayers. Sure wish we could come to Kadoka for his service but we will watch in online. ~ Vivi Ann and Jerry Snyder Pierre, SD (3/4/2021)
