In memory of

Thomas "Tom" O'Connor

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 near Philip, South Dakota at the age of 59

Thomas James "Tom" O’Connor was born August 31, 1957, in Rapid City, SD, the first of four children born to Charles and Shirley (Tavernier) O’Connor. He enjoyed fishing, coyote hunting, working with cattle, and being outdoors. He liked visiting with old friends and reminiscing about old times. Tom was blessed with two daughters, Tiekola and Tomlin.

Survivors include his parents, Shirley and Chuck O'Connor of Philip; two daughters, Tiekola Fortune of West Point, NE, and Tomlin O'Connor of Rapid City; two brothers, Tim (Susan) O'Connor of Henderson, NV, and Todd (Laura) O'Connor of Philip; one sister, Shelly (Mike) Peris of Butte, MT; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, August 10 at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11 at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip with Father Gary Oreshoski officiating.

  • When Tom lived with us, while working with my dad, he was so very gracious to 2 little girls (my sister and me) allowing us to color his hair and nick name him Burt.   • I met Tom when I was in Philip visiting my uncles. they are George and Rudy Lamm. We hug out some and then years later my husband and I ran into Tom again. He asked if we wanted to go fishing.
