Loyd R. "Pete" Buchert

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Saturday, April 2, 2005
at the Philip Nursing Home in Philip at the age of 92

Loyd R. "Pete" Buchert was born in rural Lyon County, Minnesota, near Marshall, on May 11, 1912, the son of Oscar Buchert, Sr. and Ella (Dahlquist) Buchert. He helped on the family farm and later set out on his own to farm, do custom corn shelling, and trucking.

Pete was united in marriage to Vivian Johnson on December 12, 1942, in Tracy, Minnesota. They lived on rented farms and in 1945 they purchased the Hans P.Peterson ranch north of Philip. In February 1947 they had a farm sale and headed west to the ranch. Together they raised their family ranching and farming on the hill fifteen miles north of Philip. Pete purchased more land throughout the years. In 1974 they moved one mile west of Philip, where they resided until his health forced him into the Philip Nursing Home in April of 2004. Until the age of eighty-nine, Pete remained very active on the farm and ranch.

Pete was a member of the United Church of Philip, a former member of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association, and served on the Elbon School Board for several years. He was also instrumental in building and maintaining the Elbon Telephone Exchange.

Hi family: I will miss seeing Pete drive up '73 north heading up to the farm early in the mornings. I liked to visit with him. Know that he is with the Lord and in his hands. He had a long and good life so he deserves the rest. Peace in the Lord Rae
