Bill Walker

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Thursday, May 13, 2004
at the Fort Meade V.A. Medical Center near Sturgis at the age of 75

Bill Walker was born June 4, 1928, in Wall, SD, the son of Frank and Retha (Waits) Walker.

Bill grew up in the Conata-Interior area and graduated from Wall High School in 1946. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948, he moved back to the family ranch to operate it with his parents.

On August 28, 1950, Bill married Marilyn Lytle. To this union three children were born – Harlan, Debbie, and Randy. They ranched and raced horses for many years. Bill was proud of his horses, especially his mare, Willy’s Lass, who won thirty-two races.

In August of 1979 Bill and Marilyn sold the ranch and moved to Rapid City. After residing in Rapid City for fourteen years, they moved to Wall in October of 2003. Bill enjoyed rodeos, gardening, planting trees, and woodworking. Bill and Marilyn also kept busy attending all their grandchildren’s activities.

Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 22.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of fifty-three years; his son, Harlan and his wife Lori and their children Chad and Haley; his daughter Debbie Shepard and her husband Randy and their boys Brian, his daughter Sydney, a close friend Kristie Young, and Brady; and his son Randy and his wife Cheryl and their children, Riley, Tyler, Amanda, and Abbie. Bill is also survived by one sister, Retha May Ogle of Gillette, Wyoming; a brother-in-law, Bud Eustrom of Denver, Colorado; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Kitty Eustrom.

Visitation was held from 2:00-6;00 on Sunday, May 16th at the Rush Funeral Home in Wall and one hour prior to the service at the Wall Community Center. The service was at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 17th at the Wall Community Center. with Charlie Hunt officiating

Interment with military honors provided by the Carroll McDonald American Legion Post #246 of Wall and the F.J. Willuweit VFW Post # 9120 of Quinn, was at the Wall Cemetery.

A memorial is being established for the Wall High School basketball athletic program.

Was sad to hear that Bill passed away. We did know he was not well, but it is still a shock. We will always remember Bill as our Tomato Man.
