Carol Cressy

of Murdo, South Dakota, died on Thursday, October 11, 2018
at her grandson's home in Northfield, Minnesota at the age of 76

Carol Cressy, 76, of Murdo, SD, went to be with her Lord on October 11, 2018 at 11:56pm.

Carol Jean Horsley was born June 10, 1942 in Silver City, New Mexico to Max and Bertha (Smith) Horsley. She grew up in Draper and graduated from Draper High School in 1960. Carol married Gene Cressy on June 8, 1960. They were blessed with three children: Patty, Gene Jr., and Kathy. She was the “Tupperware Lady” for over 30 years for many areas of Southwestern South Dakota, traveling far and wide and making even more friends than the miles she traveled. Following her Tupperware career, she was the Deputy Clerk of Courts in Jones County for many years. Carol was an active member of the Murdo United Methodist Church and the Murdo American Legion Auxiliary.

She was well known and loved by many in her community. She will be remembered by those who knew her for her kind, loving heart, helpful spirit, and quick, witty humor. Carol was always helping in the kitchen wherever she went, making potato salad for large events and her frosted brownies for family gatherings. Carol was the “garage sale queen”, bargain shopping and spotting the signs from a mile away. It was a great joy for her to gift others with treasures she found. The spark in her eyes would always shine a little brighter any time she heard Elvis on the radio. Carol always had time to listen to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her love will live on through them.

Carol is survived by her children: Patty of Pierre, SD, Gene Jr and wife Gayann of Summerset, SD, and Kathy Roth and husband Lonnie of Faribault, MN; grandchildren Kyle Roth (Melissa), Khrystyne Hollingsworth (Paul), Jarrod Roth (Cindy), Ashley White (Richard), Kayla Christmas (Xavier), Brenna Roth, Justin Kiery (Michelle), and Tyler Boardman; great-grandchildren Neveah Cressy, Jacqueline Dummer, Jennifer Dummer, Jesse Roth, Gideon Hollingsworth, and Avyona Kiery; siblings Nancy Tennant of Gettysburg, SD, Marcia Authier (Tom) of Vivian, SD, Curt Horsley (Kate) of Draper, SD, and Les Horsley (Cathy) of White River, SD and sister-in-law Janice Pike (Ray) of Draper, SD, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Cressy, her parents Max and Bertha Horsley, parents-in-laws Everett and Lola Cressy, sister Colleen Anna, and siblings-in-law Bob Anna, Bob Tennant, Dale and Betty Cressy and Mike and Bonnie Cressy.

Services will be held at the Murdo United Methodist Church, including a visitation on Wednesday October 17th at 7pm and funeral October 18th at 10:30am, with burial following at the Murdo Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be divided between the Murdo United Methodist Church and the Murdo American Legion Auxiliary.

My heart felt sympathy goes out to all family members in the loss of one of the sweetest ladies God created! Spent many lunch hours at her house while going to high school.
