Dorothy Kay Newman Obituary

Dorothy Kay was born January 13, 1944 in Kadoka, South Dakota to Kristian and Evelyn (Ruesink) Paulson. She grew up in the Hilland, South Dakota area and attended her first 8 years of education in a country school, and proceeded to attend and graduate from Philip High School. She then went to St. John’s McNamara Nursing School and received her Nursing Degree and Registered Nurse certificate.

She then met the love of her life, Paul Newman whom she married on August 21, 1965 in the Lutheran Church in Hilland, South Dakota. They had two sons and one daughter.

She was a very active in churches, schools, communities and service organizations in each of the 10 cities she and Paul lived in. Dorothy Kay was a member of Lutheran churches around the country until moving to Fairview, TN in 1999 and becoming a member of Westview United Methodist Church. She loved music, especially old hymns. She will always be remembered by her pleasant personality, warm smile, hearty laugh, her heart of service to others and known as a loving wife, mother, sister and friend.

Preceded in death by her parents and son, Jeffrey Allen. Grateful for sharing her life are her husband of 51 years; one son, Bryan Paul of St. Paul, MN; one daughter, Julie Ann Davis (Richard) of Franklin, TN; one granddaughter, Sarah; three grandsons, Joshua, Joseph and Jonathan; one sister, DeMaris Nesheim (Erv); two brothers, Gordon Paulson (Diane) & Gaylord Paulson (Beva); and a blessed multitude of family and friends.

A Life Celebration was held 11:00am, Saturday, June 3rd with visitation 1 hour prior to service at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home, 9090 Hwy 100, Nashville, TN, 37221 harpethhills.com, 615-646-9292

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Philip with Pastor Ray Greenseth officiating.

Interment will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.

Coffee and cookies will be served at the Senior Citizens Center in Philip following the interment.
