Betty Ann Block was born November 16, 1929 in Murdo, South Dakota, the fourth of 10 children born to Waldo and Clara (Jordan) Finck. She grew up on the farm north of Okaton, and received her education at Kessler School for her first eight grades, before graduating from Okaton High School.
After graduation, she worked at Murray’s Grocery Store in Midland. Betty was united in marriage to Louis F. “Dick” Block on June 12, 1949 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Dick and Betty were married in a double ring ceremony with Dick’s twin sister, Dolly and Leonard Blucher.
They made their home on a ranch on South Creek all their married life.
She was known for her crocheting, and made beautiful afghans and doilies. She was always quick to jump up and make food for her children and grandchildren as soon as they entered the house. She made various donations of hand crafted items for fund raisers and benefits.
Survivors include three sons Dean Block and his wife Sherrie, Gary Block and his wife Jody, and Brad Block and his wife Scotti, all of Midland; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother Kenny Finck of Newell; two sisters Ironis “Roni” Poppe of Pierre, and Norma Oldenberg and her husband Jim of Philip; one brother-in-law George Stroppel of Midland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Louis F. “Dick” Block on September 11, 2016; two brothers Emil and Robert “Bob” Finck; and four sisters Bonna Lindquist, Joyce Dykema, Alice Stroppel, and Irene Brink.

I was saddened to hear of Betty's passing. I had the privilege growing up near Dick and Betty and the making of many fond memories. Mom and I visited Betty this past summer and we had so many laughs reminiscing about all the times we spent together. The Capa neighborhood will not be the same. She will be missed.

So surprised and sad to hear of this dear lady's passing. She was a very giving person. One time I gave her some yarn I no longer wanted and soon I received two beautiful doilies in the mail. May she rest in peace. Sincerest condolences to her family.
