Pat Leroy Weaver

of Wanblee, South Dakota, died on Friday, September 7, 2018
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 85

Pat was born May 9, 1933 to Loyd and Sylvia Weaver at Allen, SD. He was the last child of 5. He was born on the tiny side, so to help him along he was kept on top of the warming oven in the old cookstove. In his early years, he was mainly raised around the Martin and Wanblee area with spending a short time in Idaho and Nebraska.

He attended schools at Wanblee, Eagle Nest School, Garner School and finishing 8th grade at Gordon, Nebraska. In May of 1953, Pat joined the Army. He did basic training in Kansas. After basic training he served in the 4th Field Artillery working With the mules throughout Colorado. He was Honorably discharged in September 1954 due to hardship.

Pat married the love of his life Monica Herber on October 16, 1955 in Kadoka SD. They started their married life on a place just northeast of Kadoka. They lived there for two and a half years. While living there the first son, Casey, was born. June of 1957 Pat moved his family to the homestead, west of Wanblee, where he still resided until the time of his death. This is where the rest of the children, Jackie, Loyd, Lyn, Lesa and Lavonne, were born and raised. Pat made a living farming and ranching. He worked for a short time with the Game, Fish. and Parks. When times were tough, he also worked on road construction and did custom haying from Tuthill to Kadoka until retiring. They continued to raise cattle and live on the homestead until later years.

Pat was a handy person. Pat and Monica realized that after 4 more kids were born that their house was too small. In September of 1965, they built the house they lived in until they retired and moved into a smaller house on what was part of the garden area. While building the house they had help from neighbors, especially Wayne Riggins and Glen Arment. Wayne taught them how the lay the blocks for the house. Glen Arment helped build the cupboards that were in the kitchen and the bathroom.

One of Pat's biggest joys was teaching someone how to fish and coyote call to anyone who wanted to learn, especially his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed coon hunting and coyote calling with neighborhood friends in his younger years. Dancing was another enjoyment. Whenever he heard a good song his legs began a moving. He was passionate about fishing with family and friends. Pat also loved working with wood and made beautiful furniture and shelves from the cedar trees off the home place. He also spent many hours playing cards or having a toddy with family or friends.

Pat was grateful to share 62 years of his life with his wife, Monica. He is also survived by his three sons: Casey and his wife, Cindy, of Wall, Loyd and his wife, Mary Ellen, of High Springs, Florida, Lyn and his wife, Debbilyn, of Newell; and three daughters: Jackie and her husband, Keith Brothers, of High Springs, Florida, Lesa and her husband, Rick Hagen, of Gillette, Wyoming, and Lavonne and her husband, Mark Slovek, of Wanblee; in addition to 14 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Pat is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Wallace as a child and Kenneth and his wife, Christine; two sisters: Vera Amiotte and her husband, Albert, and Shirley Neiffer and her husband, Gene; and a daughter-in-Law Debbie Weaver (Loyd).
