Lucille Doughty was born November 8, 1927, in Quinn, South Dakota the youngest of five daughters born to Philip and Clara (Evenson) Doughty. She grew up on her parents’ ranch on the Deep Creek in the Grindstone area. She attended rural school in the area, and then attended Quinn High School, graduating in 1945.

After graduation, she moved, along with her sister Phyllis, to Everett, Washington, where they worked in the ship yards during WWII. After the war, she travelled to the east coast, to meet up with a young Navy veteran, Walter Huether.

Lucille was united in marriage to Walter on April 20, 1946, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. They returned to the Huether homestead where they operated the family ranch until moving into Wall in 1997. During that time, she worked as a billing clerk for West River Electric for over 30 years. Her husband Walter preceded her in death on February 9, 2005. Lucille continued to make her home in Wall until moving to Rapid City in 2013.

Lucille was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Wall, and served as Imlay Township Clerk for a number of years. She enjoyed cooking, embroidery, and playing cards. She was always made sure there was enough food, so she prepared a bounty of food for every meal.

Survivors include her son Wayne Huether and his wife Marcia of Interior; one daughter Sheryl Sether of Hot Springs; four grandchildren Jackie Sawvell (Dale) of Quinn, Stacey Fielder and Bart Fielder of Rapid City; Scott Huether (Tammy) of Interior, and Shawn Sether of Lead; six great-grandchildren J.C. and Carson Fielder, Jesse and Kyla Sawvell, and Cody and Dylan Huether; and a host of other relatives and friends.
