Annabel "Ann" Moses

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, May 2, 2018
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 85

Annabel E. Erickson was born April 19, 1933, in Border, Minnesota, to Andrew and Ada (Gagnon) Erickson. She grew up and received her education in International Falls, Minnesota. After her schooling, she moved to Hawthorne, Nevada, where she met a marine, Gay Moses.

They were united in marriage on April 20, 1953, in Hawthorne. After Gay’s honorable discharge, they moved to his father’s ranch near Witten, South Dakota. In 1955, they moved to Philip, South Dakota, where she worked as a waitress, mail carrier, school cook, and later at Carley’s Grocery Store. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Philip Hospital for over 30 years, and was a very hard and dedicated worker.

After her husband Gay’s death on January 20, 2012, Ann continued to remain in Philip, where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Evening Guild, the Hospital Auxilliary, and the chairman of the Bad River Senior Center for many years. She enjoyed quilting, loved to bowl, playing cards, and liked to cook for everybody, especially making bread. She treasured the time she spent with her grandkids.

Ann was grateful to Rick “rent-a-brother” Coyle, who religiously checked on Ann every day. Ann and the family truly appreciated this gesture.

Survivors include four sons: Dennis (Donna) Moses of Escondido, California, Joe (Michaelea) Moses of Rapid City, Michael (Shar) Moses of Philip, and Donald (Wanda) Moses of Fairmont, Nebraska; two daughters, Bonnie (Dave) Moses of Exeter, NE, and Julie (Todd) Brown of Fairmont, NE; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Genevieve Handly of Rogers, AR, Sylvia Schavez of San Diego, CA, and Agnes (Francis) Amiote of International Falls, MN; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gay Moses on January 20, 2012; her parents; and one granddaughter Shanda Kay Moses.

Guest Book

We are thinking of all you folks during this difficult time. Ann was quite a lady, she will be missed by many. Joann enjoyed all the years with Ann in the American Legion Auxilary, she was always willing to help sell poppies and make the many poppy sprays for the veterans at the cemetery. Hold onto all the memories. God bless.

I didn't know Annabel personally but I am very sorry for the pain you, her family and friends, are experiencing. At these sad moments, I reflect on the words of 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4. There it says our God and Father and his son Jesus comfort us during trials, so that we can comfort others during any sort of trial. Certainly, the loss of a dear loved one is the most difficult trial! Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss.
