Norma Jean (Larson) Stverak was born August 16, 1933, in rural Lincoln County near Beresford, South Dakota, to Alvin and Edna (Henrickson) Larson. She had one sister, Darlene Arrends. Norma Jean attended Pioneer Grade School and Beresford High School. After graduation, she attended the South Dakota Beauty Academy in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

After working almost a year in Sioux Falls, she went back to Beresford and worked for two months. She started her own Jean's Beauty Shop from 1953 to 1962.

Norma Jean was united in marriage to Wesley Stverak on October 20, 1962, in Beresford. They made their home in Rapid City from 1962 to 1965. After moving to Philip in 1965, Norma Jean did beauty work and babysitting in her home.

In 1978, they moved to Wall where they operated the Wall Meat Plant for five years. Norma did more babysitting for several years until moving to Quinn in 1988. In 1989, Norma Jean, her husband Wes, and their son Todd were cooks on the Centennial Wagon Train. Norma greatly enjoyed their catering service and was also a member of the Mount Rushmore Ramblers Camping Chapter since 1980.

Norma Jean has been a member of United Methodist Church all her life. A few of her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, knitting and word puzzles, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four children: Charles Stverak and his wife Heidi of Sioux Falls and their daughters Abigail (Logan) Solbeog and Lucille; David Stverak (Sandy) of Sioux Falls and their son Holden (Adeng) Stverak and their daughter Tahiyra; Todd Stverak and his wife Brenda of Rapid City and their children Katelynn, Erica and Weston; and Lois Wilburn and her husband Charles of Black Hawk, and their children Felicia (Johie) Wilburn of Vermillion and their children Kyelah, Karrah, Arriah, Ruby and Cooper, Cassondra (Joseph) Miller of Rapid City and their sons Wesley and Lane, Tosha (Mike) Patterson of Gillette, Wyoming and their children Brandon, Elektra, and Vincent, foster-daughter Chelsea (Robert) Sands of Black Hawk and their children Claire and Connor; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Norma Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Wes; her parents Alvin and Edna Larson; and her sister Darlene Arrends.

A visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 10, at the Quinn Community Center.

Burial will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery north of Quinn.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Shriners Burn Hospital in Galveston, Texas.
