of Philip, South Dakota, died on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 90
Jeanne M. Ferry Radway was born June 13, 1926, in Oldham, South Dakota, the daughter of Marion and Hazel (Hendrickson) Ferry. She was raised in Oldham and attended three years of high school at Oldham before moving for her Senior year to Philip to care for her cousins, and graduated in 1944. She attended Aberdeen Presentation School of Nursing and graduated from there in 1947.
Jeanne was united in marriage to Rex E. Radway in January 1948. They moved to Chicago, where Jeanne worked as a nurse for 10 years. In 1957, they moved back and she worked at Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital for 52 years. She was a member of United Church and a past member of Hardingrove Presbyterian Church of Milesville. She was also a member of the United Women, Bad River Senior Center, and enjoyed playing cards in her spare time.
Her passions included nursing, playing card games, clean windows and her weekly hair appointments. She made cakes and buns from scratch, hardly ever sat down to eat a full meal and cared for whomever arrived at her doorstep – literally.
Jeanne Radway Day was proclaimed by Governor Michael Rounds on June 13, 2006 for being a caretaker, giver, doer, and expected nothing in return. She always thought “if you can’t say something nice – don’t say anything at all.”
Grateful for having shared her life include six children Sandra "Sandy" Rathbun of Orlando, Florida.
