Laura Ellen Hand was born September 29, 1910, on a farm near Columbus, Kansas, to Ira Erwin and Eva Maurine (Himes) Hand.
When Laura was 13 she moved with her parents to the Moenville, South Dakota, area where she completed her education.
As a young lady she did domestic work on the Cheney Ranch.
Laura was united in marriage to Robert Keith Eymer on August 14, 1930, in Rapid City, South Dakota. They owned and operated a farm in the Milesville area until retiring and moving into Philip in 1964.
While living in Philip, Laura worked as a clerk in the Philip Pharmacy for George Minard for 14 years.
Her husband, Robert, preceded her in death on October 7, 1969.
Laura continued to maker her home in Philip and in September of 1983 she moved into the Senechal Apartments where she lived until the time of her death.
Laura was a member of the First Lutheran Church, a non-denominational morning Bible study group, the Bad River Senior Citizens Center, and the Order of the Eastern Star #100, all of Philip. She was a long-time member of the Hardingrove Ladies Aid and the Town and Country Bridge Club along with other bridge clubs.
Laura's favorite pastime was playing cards and watching sports on television, especially when the Cubs baseball team was playing.
Grateful for having shared her life are her one son, Donald, and his wife, Marcia Eymer, of Milesville; two daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Howard) Parsons, and Sharon (Mrs. Bob) Coyle, both of Philip; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ira M. "Bud" Hand of Las Vegas, Nevada; two sisters, Carrie Standiford of Midland, South Dakota, and Juanita Rygg of Huron, South Dakota; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Elshere of Rapid City, Florence (Mrs. Clinton) Neville of Philip, and Angie Hand of Columbus, Kansas; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Dianne Schurr, and one granddaughter, Joan Lee Eymer.
