In memory of

Jan Bielmaier

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at his home west of Wall at the age of 61

Jan Michael Bielmaier was born May 1, 1959, in Rapid City, South Dakota, the second of six children born to Wiilliam and Marjorie (Fritz) Bielmaier. He grew up in Wall where he attended Wall High School. During his school years Jan was active in football, wrestling, and was proud of his John Philip Sousa Award he earned for his years as a trumpet player. Jan graduated from Wall High School in 1978, and then attended South Dakota State University. After college, he returned to the farm-ranch west of Wall, with his Dad.

Jan later purchased his own place from A.M. Smith, and continued to farm-ranch. While in Wall, Jan was active on the Wall Fire Department for many years, a board member on the Wall Golf Course, and was always helping with anything that needed to be done.

Jan was united in marriage to Stacy Hout while on a Caribbean Cruise in 2007. They made their home on the farm-ranch west of Wall their entire married life. In May of 2007, they completed their family, when Zach came to live with them in South Dakota. Jan's most enjoyable job from that day forward was being a father to Zach.

Jan was a DuPont Pioneer Sales Agent for the last 11 years. Jan has also guided deer hunters for a number years. When Jan wasn’t farming, ranching, or selling seed, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting, and taking trips to golfing and or gambling destinations.

Survivors include his wife Stacy of Wall; his son Zach of Wall; his father William Bielmaier of Wall; three sisters Cathy Thompson and her husband Keith of Edwards, Colorado, Mary Beth Contreras and her husband Gary of Chandler, Arizona, and Cheryl Stewart and her husband Scott of Haslet, Texas; two brothers Kevin Bielmaier and his wife Jody of Wall, and Craig Bielmaier and his wife Jana of Wall; his mother and father in-law Arvin and June Hout of Rapid City; a brother-in-law Greg Hout of Rapid City; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jan was preceded in death by his mother Marjorie Bielmaier on February 17, 1987.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, at the Wall Community Center.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 28, at the Wall Community Center, with Pastor Chris Clark officiating.
Interment will be at the Wall Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

  • You know, you hear all the time "hug your loved ones ". But you never really think that it will be the last time that you do. I still haven't let it sink in that I won't see Jan again, but what really makes me sad is how much Stacy and Zach loved him so much and I can't imagine how sad this is. Watched Jan's funeral live stream and my heart goes out Zach. I laughed about Zach talking about when Jan asking him about the food he cooked for him....."is it good?...it's good isn't it?" Lmao! Jan will be missed. but can't imagine how Stacy and Zach will miss h. So sad. ~ Norma Wall, SD (12/30/2020)

  • With the tragic loss of our cousin, our brother Jan, our hearts go out to Stacy and Zack, and to Uncle Bill, Mary Beth, Cathy, Kevin, Cheryl, Craig and their families. Jan was a central figure in our second home West River; where our mother, Mary Bielmaier Strandell grew up. Our early years as kids playing together all over the breaks of Lazy B Ranch, and the memorable family reunions are bright in my mind and heart. We will miss his big laughter, and kindness forever.

  • So sad to hear about Jan. We were in the same class K-12 and before that we were in Sunday School together. Hard to think of Wall without Jan. He was always the biggest kid in class, had a heart to match that, got better grades than the rest of the boys and could crackup everyone with an acerbic one liner. Always up there hammering that trumpet during games. So sad for the family, and sad that Bill has to experience losing a son.
