In memory of

Erik Thor Hunt

of Glendale, Arizona, died on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by his family and friends at the age of 48

Erik Thor Hunt was born March 31, 1976, in Spearfish, South Dakota to Theodore and Dena (Fosse) Hunt. He graduated from Spearfish High School in 1994. While in school, Erik played the saxophone in band and enjoyed playing different sports including three years participating on the Northern Hills American Legion baseball team. Erik then attended and graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1999, where he was also a member of the Phi DeltaTheta Fraternity.

His profession in Finance led him to working and living in several different cities throughout his career including Denver, CO, Bensalem, PA, Jacksonville, FL, San Diego, CA, and finally employed as a Lead Financial Analyst at Broadridge Financial Solutions in Phoenix, AZ. He was very well-liked and respected by his peers.

Erik’s passion was golfing. Playing with friends in tournaments around the region every year is what he enjoyed the most. Attending the Masters with friends in 2023 was also a highlight. In addition, he loved baseball and college sports, especially following the Dodgers and the University of Michigan Wolverines.

Normally quiet, Erik would often surprise friends and family with his quick and witty sense of humor. He made a lot of long lasting friendships during his life with his very genuine and friendly personality. Those friends were very important and impactful to him, especially during the past 12 months. Some of Erik’s best friends were also animals, especially his beloved dog Kaiya.

Erik is survived by his parents, Ted and Dena Hunt of Rapid City, SD, brother Derek (Erin) Hunt of Fort Collins, CO, sister Nicole (Ryan) Thorburn of Laramie, WY, four nieces (Lauren Hunt and Madelyn, Gabrielle, and Peyton Thorburn), several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents (Ted and Vi Fosse, Lyle and Ida Hunt).

  • Erik always took the time to explain complicated terms/scenarios in a way that ANYONE could understand. His patience and intelligence radiated when doing so.
