of Philip, South Dakota, died on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Monument Health in Rapid City at the age of 63
Randall S. “Randy” Sampson was born December 10, 1959, in Philip, South Dakota, the youngest of three children born to Vern and Isabelle (Munger) Sampson. He grew up on the ranch south of Midland and attended Stamford Country School before attending Midland High School, graduating in May 1978. Randy was very active in sports throughout his high school years, playing football, basketball, and track. In addition to those sports, Randy was a part of the Midland Tumblers, and was proud of receiving the “Most Outstanding Tumbler” award his senior year in Sioux Falls.
After graduation, he attended Mechanic School in Springfield, where he met Tammy Hehn. They were united in marriage March 3, 1979, in Midland, and to this union were born two children: Jennifer and Jason. They made their home in Philip, where he worked at Ken’s Repair in Midland for two years, before owning and operating Sampson’s Auto Body at the shop on the ranch.
Randy was united in marriage to Jackie Weber on December 30, 1999, at the Lutheran Church in Midland. They made their home in Philip all their married life.
In 1989, Randy was diagnosed with MS. As the years went by and his disease progressed, even to the point he was confined to a wheelchair, it never broke his spirit. He always put family first and would do anything for them. He treated his friends like his family and thought about everyone but himself.
Survivors include his wife Jackie of Philip; son Jason Sampson of Philip; daughter Jennifer (Eric) Heltzel of Philip; grandchildren Danessa and Aiden Heltzel of Philip; Mother Isabelle Sampson of Midland; sister Sherrie (Dean) Block of Midland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Vern Sampson and brother Steven Sampson.
