of Mitchell, South Dakota, died on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at his home in Mitchell at the age of 84
Frank Sell was born March 13, 1936 to Adeline (Stewart) and Frank Sell, Sr. at home during a blizzard on a farm two miles west of Marty Mission. He attended country school four miles out of town then moved to Marty Mission School until he graduated 8th grade. This was a Catholic school, and Frank said the nuns were mean. After 8th grade he worked on his father’s farm. Then he worked for the city of Marty Mission running farm tractors for 40 cents per hour, 10 hours a day, and 5 days a week.
After his father sold the farm Frank traveled to Washington state to be a lumberjack. Unfortunately, they were not hiring so he moved back to Pierre and joined the ironworkers. Frank was a proud lifetime member of local 184 since 1958.
Frank met his wife Jo Ann Hilton in 1971, and they were united in marriage in 1973.
Frank traveled to many places in South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, and even moved his family to Texas in the 1980s following the ironworker job. He held different positions including steward.
At the time of his retirement he lived his remaining years in South Dakota where he did many projects like building benches and other items.
Survivors include four children: Larry Joe Lange of Scotland, South Dakota; Rita Weatherbee and her husband Al of Pierre; Carrie Neuschwander and her husband Brad of Broussard, Louisiana; and Melinda Olson and her husband Thad of Mitchell; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann on January 27, 2017; granddaughter, Aimee (Lange) Palmer; his parents; and two brothers Wayne and Orville Sell.
