In memory of

Linda Gebes

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 75

Linda Sue Gebes was born November 19, 1949, in Rapid City, South Dakota to Luther and Andrena (Valsvig) Knutson. She attended grade school at Alfalfa Valley first through eighth grade. She then attended Philip High School and graduated in 1969. Linda attended a beauty school in Seattle, Washington for one year.

She was united in marriage to Michael L. Gebes on January 30, 1971. They moved to the Gebes family homestead in Milesville, September 1971. They had five children: Darren, Courtney, Justin, Bradley, and Sallyanne.

Linda was an avid gardener. For years she had a large garden and would often plant up to 1000 hills of potatoes. She loved to scoot around on her lawn mower and taking care of her yard. She was Mike’s right hand helper for 40+ years. She also worked for Dr. Stangle at Golden Veterinary Services for 19 years. Shortly after she retired Mike and Linda moved to Philip in 2016.

Survivors include husband Mike of Philip; five children: Darren (Karen) Gebes of Whitewood, Courtney Gebes of Philip, Justin (Lacy) Gebes of Hermosa, Bradley (Kathy) Gebes of Milesville, and Sally (Chad) Gebes of Wallace, MI; grandchildren: Blase, Stephen, Cormac, Rex, Brech, Gianna, Brigid, Kiara, Emma, Andrena, Ashley, and Devin; sisters LaVonne Hansen of Philip and Becky (Scott) Brech of Cottonwood; brothers John (Arnis) Knutson of Grindstone and William “Bill” (Gretchen) Knutson of Brookings; sister-in-law Cheryl (David) Hauck; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister LuAnn (Jim) Baker, and brother-in-law Bob Hansen.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Rush Funeral Home in Philip.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2025 at the American Legion Hall in Philip with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
