In memory of

Wally Hoffman

of Creighton, South Dakota, died on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Monument Health in Rapid City. at the age of 67

Wallace Lee “Wally” Hoffman was born January 3, 1956, in New Underwood, South Dakota, the second of three children born to Maurice and Audrey (White) Hoffman. Wally grew up in the Pedro area and attended Deep Creek Rural School. He then attended Wall High School, graduating in 1974.

Wally was united in marriage to Carol Voyles on July 25, 1980, in Wall; and to this union were born three sons. They made their home on the ranch in the Pedro area all 42 years of marriage. Wally was an avid Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Wally was the Casanova of the Cheyenne River. Like Casanova, Wally had many loves in his life. His greatest love was his wife, Carol (She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed), followed by his boys and their families. Also included in Wally’s loves were other family members, card games, friends, good horses, and tractors. But perhaps a love that even rivaled his love for Carol was Wally’s love of the Cheyenne River Breaks.

Wally knew when he passed on, it wouldn’t take him long to get to Heaven. To Wally’s way of thinking, Heaven bordered his ranch there along the river. All Wally was going to have to do was open a gate and step up on a good horse and he would be there.

Wally was a humble man with a strong belief in his Creator. This belief gave him courage to face the many challenges he had in his life, and brought him peace there near the end. But it was Wally’s humor that he was famous for, and if St. Pete wasn’t laughing five minutes after Wally got there, he just ain’t got a sense of humor.

God Bless, you, Wally.

Grateful for having shared his life include his wife Carol; two sons Zeb Hoffman and his wife Megan of Creighton, and Zack Hoffman and his wife Lucy of Wall; six grandchildren Nora, Coy, Cort, Elsie, Chet and Maurice Hoffman; a sister Debbie Turner and her husband Doyle of Kenton, Ohio; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wally was preceded in death by a son Zane Hoffman on October 20, 2008; his parents; and one brother George Hoffman.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, February 13, at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, at the United Methodist Church in Wall, with Pastor Russell Masartis officiating.

Interment will be at the Rose Cemetery near Creighton.

Cards and memorials may be sent to P.O. Box 53, Wall, SD 57790.
