of Midland, South Dakota, died on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Monument Health in Rapid City at the age of 79
Arthur “Leroy” Fedderson, was born on October 21, 1946, in Murdo, South Dakota, to Bonnie (Luken) and Arthur “Art” Fedderson. He was raised on the family farm near Murdo and attended local schools.
In the summer of 1967, Leroy attended a dance in Midland, where he met the love of his life, June Schofield. They were united in marriage on September 6, 1969, and lived in Murdo for eight years before moving to Midland, where they raised their three daughters, Lacy, Lindy, and Dusti.
Leroy was a hardworking man who wore many hats throughout his life. He worked for Tri State Milling Company, drove truck for Fosheim Oil Company, operated heavy equipment for the Jones County Road Department and Petoske Construction, worked at the Midland grain elevator, and later retired from the State of South Dakota as a highway maintenance worker. Retirement didn’t last long—he soon returned to work part-time at Kennedy Implement and took pride in caring for the Midland Cemetery grounds which he did up until the time of his passing.
A true jack of all trades, Leroy loved to tinker, build, and fix just about anything. Many of his skills were self-taught, and he could often be found in his garage welding, creating new gadgets, or repairing small engines, usually with a can of Mountain Dew nearby. He especially enjoyed making toys and special projects for his grandchildren.
Above all, Leroy treasured his family. Nothing meant more to him than having his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids together. Christmas gatherings were among his favorite times, filled with laughter, stories, and card games. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and making memories with those he loved most.
Those who were lucky enough to know Leroy knew how big his heart was and that they could always count on him to lend a helping hand. He spoke his mind freely, no matter the time or place, and was well known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 56 years, June; his children, Lacy Puhlman of Philip, Lindy (Greg) Smith of Faith, and Dusti (Nick) Palecek of Pierre; nine grandchildren: Blake (Jennifer) Puhlman, Braden (Khloe Gunderson) Puhlman, Brodie Puhlman, Connor (Jacey) Smith, Delaney (Jade) Mortenson, Emilee Smith, Cassie Smith, Daylen Palecek, and Tace Palecek; and eight great-grandchildren: Paisley, Torrin, Brecklin, Emery, Sutton, Bowen, Walker, and Keaton Casey (KC); sister Rosi Royer of Waukee, IA; sister-in-law Betty Fedderson of Bossier City, LA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur “Art” and Bonnie Fedderson; his parents-in-law, Harry “Hank” and Pauline Schofield; his brothers, Duane and Gary Fedderson; his brothers-in-law, Lloyd Royer, Larry McLaughlin, and Will and Travis Schofield; his son, Casey Leroy Fedderson; and his grandson, Reid Christian Palecek.
