In memory of

Brant Sundall

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Monument Health in Rapid City at the age of 72

Brant Mackey Sundall was born October 20, 1950, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Gilbert R. and Dorothy R. (Mackey) Sundall, joining his sister Susan. He grew up in Rapid City, and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1969. After graduation he went to work for Slaughter Electric in Rapid City.

Brant married Leatta Baranko on February 24, 1973. Their son Lance Michael was born November 8, 1978. In 1980, they moved to Philip where he started Brant’s Electric. In 1981, Bret Kenner joined him and it became Brant’s & Bret’s Electric. In 1991, Bret and his family moved to New York and it was once again Brant’s Electric. In 2010, Lance joined his Dad working with Brant’s Electric, which elated Brant.

Brant had many highlights throughout the years including Black Hills deer hunting with Lance, Brodi, Carter, Bentley, and all his hunting buddies. He always came back with a story. Memorial Day weekend was their annual camping trip to the Cheyenne River with his son, grandsons, and many friends. The Cheyenne River had a rule similar to Vegas, “What happened there, stayed there.” Brant also took an annual golf trip with his buddies, Tom, Bruce and Randy. Brant always said “it was a laugh a minute.” 4th of July was the annual tubing trip to the Niobrara River, until getting off the tube was too much work. Along with annual events, Brant also had a weekly event, which was “Anger Management” meetings every Wednesday night at the 73 Bar, with his buddies. This was the highlight of Brant’s week, and a laugh a minute fit here too.

Brant’s grandsons were the apple of his eye. He was so proud of them and wasn’t afraid to brag about them. He loved to go fishing, hunting, and golfing with them, and watching them at their sporting events.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lee; a son Lance Sundall and his wife Kelli of Wall; three grandsons Brodi, Carter, and Bentley Sundall of Wall; a sister Susan Henrichsen and her husband John of Rapid City; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Brant was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Dorothy (Mackey) Sundall.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 23, at the American Legion Hall in Philip, with Pastor Kathy Chesney officiating.
