In memory of

Arvin Hout

of Rapid City, South Dakota, died on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood at the age of 88

Arvin John Hout was born December 18, 1935 in Pollock, South Dakota. He was the fifth child born to Mike and Emma Hout.

After high school Arvin volunteered for the draft and served two years in the U.S. Army. He spent two years in Germany where he played basketball for the Army.

In 1961 he moved to Philip, South Dakota to work with Delzer Construction. They built Highway 73 which runs south of Philip. At that time, he met the love of his life, June Keller. They were united in marriage in November of 1961 and recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. To this union they were blessed with two children: Greg Hout of Pierre and Stacy Bielmaier of Wall. The bright spot of his life was his only grandchild, Zachary Hout, of Murdo.

After college Arvin accepted a position with AT&T, working in Davenport, Iowa, then transferring to Dallas, Texas where he worked until retirement in 1996. After retirement Arvin spent most of his days on the golf course, a game he loved to play, and he was quite good at it!

In 2013 the Houts moved to Wall, South Dakota where “Papa” could be part of Zachary’s athletic events.

Survivors include his wife June Hout of Rapid City; son Gregory Hout of Pierre; daughter Stacy Bielmaier of Wall; grandson Zachary Hout of Wall of Murdo; brother Kermit (Darlyne) Hout of St. Paul, Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Mike Hout and two in infancy; two sisters Darlene Huft and Lordena Whalen; and son-in-law Jan Bielmaier.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Evangelical Free Church in Wall with Pastor Chris Clark officiating.

Interment with military honors will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2024 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
