In memory of

Nancy "Tootie" Iversen

of Murdo, South Dakota, died on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Avantara Nursing Home in Pierre at the age of 85

Nancy Jean (Jackson) Iversen age 85 passed away Friday July 23, 2021, at the Avantara Pierre nursing home where she was a resident for five years. She was born at home in Presho, SD. on November 17, 1935. Her parents were Robert William Jackson, Sr. and Charlotte Isabel (Voelker). The family moved around and lived in Wood, Presho, Philip and finally settled in Murdo when Nancy was 8 years old. Nancy grew up in and spent almost her entire life in Murdo.

Nancy and Lowell (Butch) Iversen were married on July 17, 1953, and they had two children, Jeffrey Lowell and Christine Susan. Nancy took care of her family and kept a neat and orderly home. As most wives of ranchers do, she hosted cattle branding dinners for many years.

She worked for the Murdo Coyote newspaper for a few years setting type and learned how to read backwards and upside down. After the Coyote, Nancy was hired in her early 20s by Howard North to do some extra typing at West Central Electric and for 37 years was the face you saw when entering the lobby. Among her many duties she was also in charge of the food recipes published in West Central's newsletter.

She loved playing golf and traveling around South Dakota competing in golf tournaments. She was self-taught and had an extremely smooth natural swing. When the new golf course opened in Murdo, Nancy sewed the first flags for the holes. She loved spending time with friends and family. She liked fishing, especially using a bobber and bait on a hook while setting in a lawn chair with a cooler full of iced beer and fried chicken by her side. One of her favorite things to do, was travel to Rapid City to attend the air shows at Ellsworth AFB. Many trips were taken to Pierre in the summer to watch Dale Iversen race his #141 Ford around the racetrack. She was a big fan of trying different food recipes. Nancy was an avid reader, crossword puzzler and loved playing cards and was a member of several card clubs. She also liked many kinds of music, not just country. She enjoyed watching NASCAR races and #24 Jeff Gordon was her favorite driver.

Nancy was a smart person and never shrank from her responsibilities. She supported her children and husband in being themselves and was the anchor of the family. Nancy will be greatly missed.

Those having the privilege of participating in her life were her husband Butch of 66 years. Her son Jeffrey Lowell (Nancy) Iversen; her daughter Christine Susan (Iversen) Strait; grandchildren Marcus Hunter (Lisa) Iversen; Jonathan Carroll (Ginnie) Strait; Shelby Charlotte Strait; great grandson William James Strait (son of Jonathan & Ginnie). Her siblings: William “Bill” Jackson, Robert “Bobby” Jackson Jr., Isabel “Babe” Valburg and Clifford “Jackie” Jackson.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Butch, parents, brothers Bill and Jackie and infant sister Gloria.

In lieu of cards or monetary donations to the family, the family requests donations in Nancy's name be made to the Jones County Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 305, Murdo, SD 57559.

At Nancy's wishes cremation will take place and no services will be held.
