of Wall, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 81
Ann (Klapperich) Kitterman was born at home near Conde, South Dakota, on August 14, 1936, one of nine children born to Leon and Leone (Fortin) Klapperich. At a young age, she moved with her family to a farm near Turton, where she grew up and received her education. She graduated from Turton High School in 1954.
After graduation, Ann moved to Wall to work at the Wall Drug Store as a clerk. Soon after she met Boyd “Butch” Kitterman, and on August 17, 1955 they were married. Together they had four children: John, Jim, Jeff, and Jean.
Ann worked at Wall Drug and helped Butch with the local freight company they owned, Wall Drayline. It consisted of hauling freight to local businesses that was dropped off by Barber Transportation.
Ann and Butch purchased the Welsh motel in 1978 and in 1980, purchased the flower shop and ran the flower shop out of the motel office for several years. The motel burned down and they rebuilt. Four years later they added the cabins, which they continue to own and operate.
Ann was a longtime member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wall, the St. Patrick’s women’s club, the Jaycettes, and a leader for the Girl Scouts for a number of years. Over the years Ann has held various positions on the Wall Chamber of Commerce. In 1985 Ann was appointed to the Utilization Board for the construction of the new Community Center in Wall. Ann and Butch also won the Good Neighbor award in 1985. In May 2018, Ann received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Wall Chamber of Commerce.
