In memory of

Robert "Bob" Fite

of Kadoka, South Dakota, died on Monday, May 27, 2024 at Monument Health in Rapid City at the age of 72

Robert "Bob" Fite was born on November 17, 1951, in Rapid City, SD to Laurence and Myrtle (Mert) (Nelson) Rubottom. Before starting kindergarten, his family moved to Philip. In 1961 his mother Mert married Glen Fite and in 1962 Glen adopted Bob and his three siblings.

During his younger school years, he participated in baseball. During his high school years, he was involved in FFA, and he enjoyed football and track. He would spend his summers working on the Fite ranch, helping Maurice and sister Vickie put up hay and other ranch work. During this time, he got to be an example to his nephew Bryon. Even if it was catching rattlesnakes and keeping them in a jar. He graduated in 1970 from Philip High School, then went on to take classes at Black Hills State College. He then moved to Eureka, California where his dad lived and attended a junior college. While in Eureka he met and married Linda Stockton, June 9, 1973. Shortly after moving to California, he was drafted, and he joined the United States Army stationed at Myrtle Beach, Virgina.

During this marriage two sons were born Bradley Robert Fite on September 2, 1975, and Chad Allen Fite was July 30, 1976. During his years in Eureka, he worked for the Railroad and Logging. After 20 years he returned to South Dakota and lived with his sister Karen and her family so he could get back to his roots of enjoying the country lifestyle and having his family around him. He enjoyed being with them and getting to know his great nieces and nephews. He carried on his traditions of having unique pets as he had a badger until there was concern it might get one of his great nieces or great nephews. While in Philip he worked for Haakon County Highway Department and was able to run equipment which he enjoyed doing. He tried working at Scotchman Industries for a few years but being inside was not for him, so he went to work at CHS and drove trucks for them. You would often see Bob and Larry spending the weekend together doing some crazy adventure. He retired and stayed in the Philip and Kadoka area where he had family and friends.

Grateful for having shared his life are his two sons Bradley (Dana) Fite and Chad (Kim) Fite all of Eureka, California; four grandchild Masen, Owen, Brayden and Kaine; four great-grandchildren Myten, Koda, Westen, and Kalaia; sister Karen (Terry) Pinney of rural Philip; his nephews and nieces Scott (Stacy) Pinney and Kevin (Kim) Pinney, Teresa (Roger) O'Connell, Bryon (Tina) Fite, Vona Fite and Lori (Khalid) El Aroussi; numerus great nieces and great nephews. "I am the cute one."

He was preceded in death by his mother Mert Jacobson (2004); his father Laurence Rubottom (2010); his stepfather Don Jacobson (2004); his stepmother Edna Rubottom (2009); his adoptive father Glen Fite; brother Larry Fite (2019); two sisters Debra Rubottom (1954 - at two weeks old) and Vickie Fite (2024) and her husband Maurice (2024).

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2024 at First Lutheran Church in Philip.
