In memory of

Larry Schell

of Wall, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in Rapid City at the age of 62

Larry Lavern Schell went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 19, 2023. He passed away peacefully at the home of his beloved Aunt Shirley Tennyson in Rapid City, after a lengthy respiratory illness. Larry was born on December 27, 1960, to Dean and Charlene (Hayes) Schell in Rapid City.

He attended grade school in Wasta, South Dakota and graduated from Wall High School in 1979. After graduation he remained on the family ranch. In 1998 Larry married Jill Schuetts. In 1999, they lost their adored son John in infancy.

Larry attended Frontier Bible Academy and Graduated in 2018. He began giving sermons throughout the communities and enjoyed his visits with all who attended.

Larry was a member of the Wasta Volunteer Fire Department and served as the Chief for nearly a decade. He was also a member of the South Dakota Buckaroos and the AQHA. He loved good horse flesh and raised a lot of good quarter horses with his mom and dad’s AQHA bloodlines. He was an amazing horseman and had a keen eye for good horses and cattle. Nobody sat a horse like Larry.

Larry was known as being a great dancer, listener, storyteller, neighbor, and friend. Everyone that crossed paths with him became lifelong friends. Larry especially loved to spend time with all his nieces and nephews and treasured attending their events. He was everyone’s favorite uncle. Larry adored his aunt Shirley who was like a second mother, and she treated him like a son. Larry was loved by everyone and touched many hearts.

He is survived by his sister Cindy (Doug) Wallingford; brothers Terry (Billie) Schell and Steve (Lynn) Schell; and brother-in-law Craig Bryan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who were the apples of his eye.

He was preceded in death by his son John, his parents, his sister Vickie Bryan, and his beloved Hank.

Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Thursday, December 28, at the Community Center in Wall.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 29, at the Elm Springs Hall with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating.

Interment will follow at the Elm Springs Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Elm Springs Community Hall and the Wasta Volunteer Fire Department.
