In memory of

Luverna Olson

of Rapid City, South Dakota, died on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Avantara St. Cloud Assisted Living Center in Rapid City at the age of 89

Luverna C. Olson was born July 28, 1931, to Jake and Mollie (Neuharth) Kahler at home on the family farm near Burke, South Dakota. She grew up and attended school in Burke.

Luverna was united in marriage to James D. Ingram on June 18, 1949, and to this union were born four children: Jerry, Lora Jean, Steve, and Leann.

Luverna and Jim moved from Rapid City to Philip South Dakota in 1964 and purchased the Coast to Coast hardware store which they operated for many years. Luverna was active in her community and church.

Later in life, Luverna was united in marriage to Robert L. Olson on April 19, 1986. They made their home on the ranch near Midland until 1992 when they moved to Rapid City. While in Rapid City, Luverna was involved in the Red Hat Ladies, Mary Kay Cosmetics, and Peace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed dancing, visiting with many friends and family, and had a love for baking and caring for her grandchildren.

Luverna spent the last years of her life at Avantara Nursing Home and was always loved by the staff for her beautiful smile.

Survivors include her children Jerry (Pam) Ingram of Philip, South Dakota, Steve (Sheila) Ingram of Fort Pierre, South Dakota, and Leann (Terry) Olson of Rapid City, South Dakota; two step-children Robin (Tim) Jirak of Breckenridge, Minnesota and Kathy (Chris) Hutchings of Wichita Falls, Texas; 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; one sister Leona Littau of Winner, South Dakota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her second husband Robert "Bob" Olson on July 18, 2006; first husband James "Jim" Ingram on March 18, 1996; daughter Lora Jean Ingram in infancy; one step-daughter Cindy Fraas; step-son Milo Robert Olson in infancy; her parents Jake and Mollie Kahler; and two brothers Victor and Eddie Kahler.


Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with visitation starting 12 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2021, at Peace Lutheran Church at 219 E St. Anne Street in Rapid City. The funeral service will be live-streamed from this webpage and can be viewed at the start of the service.

Private family interment will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established and cards and memorials may be sent to 7238 Tanager Dr. Rapid City, SD 57702.
