In memory of

Alfred "Dean" Lindquist

of Rapid City, South Dakota, died on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the Kadoka Nursing Home at the age of 84

Alfred Dean Lindquist was born on January 3rd 1936, the third of nine children born to Kora (Lintvedt) and Albin Lindquist. Dean grew up and received his education in Vivian. At age 10, he started driving his father’s fuel truck and after his father’s passing he helped his Mom and Uncle run the family business while still attending school.

After graduating from Vivian High School, he joined the US Army in March of 1955 and was honorably discharged in March of 1957. That same year he purchased the Dean’s 66 gas station in Murdo and ran it for 25 years. He had close to 100 young men love and respect him as a boss and he always prided himself in that he never had to fire any of them.

Dean married Bonna Finck in 1958 and to this union three daughters were born, Karen, Kim and Tammy. In 1976, Dean married Colleen Palmer, who brought to this union a step-daughter Debbie and step-son Kenny. In 1981 they moved to Rapid City and started a new adventure. Together they owned Dean’s Trucking Co. for 10 years and also raised registered cattle.

Dean loved to dance. He was a big man with smooth moves. He enjoyed sharing his jokes, stories and candy with anyone. He loved to drive and bragged about teaching his children and grandchildren how to drive. “Children” is what made his world go round.

Survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Colleen; three daughters, Karen Lindquist, Kim (Terry) Deuter, Tammy (Terry) Van Dam; step-son Kenny (Andrea) Palmer; three sisters, Arla Bisson, Marlene (Keith) Patrick, and Diann (Bob) Beer; a brother Orin (Sharon) Lindquist; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ula Stinson, Betty Gillings, Karen Booth; one brother Gary Lindquist; and his step-daughter Debbie Morris.

Visitation will be held a half-hour prior to the services.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday January 3, at the Canyon Lake United Methodist Church (3500 Canyon Lake Dr.) in Rapid City, with Pastor DeAnn Eidem officiating.

Due to Covid-19, masks and social distancing will be required at the services. The funeral service will also be live streamed so you are able to watch it on this webpage at the start of the service if you would like.

I am so very sorry for your loss. This new journey without Grandpa Dean is going to be difficult, but know that God will hold you close and make your hard a little easier. Josie, what you and Zippy shared with your Grandpa was so evident in how his eyes would light up when you and Zippy would enter the room.
