Helen Irene (Becker) Crawford was born May 8, 1945, to William “Bill” Becker and Irene (Clink) Becker at the Wall Hospital. She was raised ten miles North of Wall and attended Huron Country School for eight years. Helen graduated from Wall High School in 1963. She attended beauty school and graduated from National College of Business in Rapid City.


Helen was united in marriage to Bob Crawford on July 2, 1982. She worked as a teacher’s aide at Sky Ranch for Boys and worked at various places in Wall, including serving as manager of Jake’s for numerous years. When her cherished mother Irene suffered a stroke in 2001, Helen became her mother’s full-time caretaker until Irene moved to Philip in 2007.


Helen was a member of the Quinn VFW and a member of the Eastern Star in Hooker, OK (1954-2020). She volunteered at the Food Pantry and taught week day school at the Wall Methodist Church. Helen served on the Board of Directors for the Wall Area Community Library and was a member of the Wall Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce; she stuffed thousands of information request envelopes for them. She was thrilled to be honored with the Friend of the Chamber Award in 2021.


Helen loved to cut fabric squares for quilts (although she hated to sew)! She was a voracious reader and loved to put puzzles together.


Survivors include a host of incredibly special friends and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Crawford and her parents Bill and Irene Becker.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, at Rush Funeral Home in Wall.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 16, at the Evangelical Free Bible Church in Wall with Pastor Chris Clark officiating.

Interment will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 16, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
