In memory of

Tyrone Moos

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Scotchman Living Center in Philip at the age of 87

Tyrone Albert Moos was born January 24, 1938 to Albert and Luella (Bucklin) Moos at his parents home in Selby, South Dakota.

Tyrone attended school in Selby, SD until he completed the 8th grade. He started working at Selby Oil Company while he was a student and worked another two years with the Oil Company after finishing school.

Tyrone then joined the Mobridge Unit of the South Dakota National Guard, serving 8 years with his unit. During this time he spent 6 months training at Ft Belvoir, Virginia.

Upon returning from Ft Belvoir, Tyrone was employed by Delzer Construction in Selby. He ran heavy equipment and was grade forman for 5 years. During the summer of 1961, Tyrone was working on a project to rebuild Highway 73 south of Philip, SD. It was during this time that he met his wife, Elvera Harnisch.

Tyrone and Elvera were married on July 3rd, 1962 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Philip. Over the next three years they moved their mobile home to 8 different communities while Tyrone worked construction, spending the winters in Selby.

In the fall of 1964 they made a permanent move to Philip and purchased the Mobil Oil Service Station which they operated for 9 years and the Park Inn Cafe for one year. During this time they also began farming with Elvera’s father. In 1973 they purchased the Laura Braddock home and farm which was the start of their 60 years of farming.

Tyrone shared his love and knowledge of farming as a member of the Board of Directors for the Farmers Co-Op Elevator for 17 years. He also served 9 years on the Harvest States Cooperative Board. During these years with Harvest States, Tyrone and Elvera were able to travel to new places and experience the world of agriculture in many different ways. Tyrone especially loved being able to share some of these travel experiences with his kids and grandkids.

Tyrone enjoyed sharing his love of hunting with his family and friends. Opening day of pheasant season was always a highlight of the year for him surrounded by friends and family to share in a good hunt and lots of laughter.

For many years, Tyrone could be found behind the camera taking pictures for many families around the Philip area. He and Elvera were a special team when it came to their ability to capture special memories for so many people.

Tyrone was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church of Selby, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church of Philip. Tyrone served the church in many ways throughout the years. Tyrone also served 3 terms on the Haakon County School Board.

Tyrone was devoted to his faith, family and friends. He loved helping others and was always there for anyone who needed a helping hand. He led his family with love and kindness and created so many special memories for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In April of 2022 Tyrone and Elvera moved from the farm to the Silverleaf together. Tyrone then joined Elvera at the Scotchman Living Center in March of 2024.

Survivors include two daughters Hallie Albrecht and her husband Mike of Philip, Heidi Kampfe and her husband Steve of Pierre; one daughter-in-law Georgia Moos of Philip; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and one due in March; two sisters Goldie Madden and Myra Hahne; one brother Myron Moos; and a host of other relatives and friends.
