Douglas DuWayne Dahl was born April 6, 1955 at Smokey Hill Air Force Base in Salina, Kansas to Airman Robert Sanford Dahl and Doris Dell (Molstad) Dahl. While in Kansas his sister, Sue, joined the family. After moving back to South Dakota his brothers, Larry and Marvin, finished out their family.

Doug attended numerous country schools. He often rode his bicycle. Doug graduated from high school in Baker, Montana in 1973. Doug went on to attend a bullfighting school in Texas and started his dream career as a bullfighter. He joined the PRCA in 1977 and later became a Gold Card member. Doug was nominated as Bullfighter of the Year for the Montana Circuit in 1980, 1981 and 1982. Doug slowly transitioned to comedy and a barrelman. He was Barrelman of the Year in 1989 for the Montana Circuit.

Besides rodeo, Doug worked for several ranches and spent time in the oil field.

In 1982 Doug and Vicky were married in Wall, South Dakota and made their home in and around Baker, MT. In 1989 they welcomed their son, Dillon, to the family. In 1996, Doug gave up one dream for another and moved his family from Montana to Vicky’s family ranch in South Dakota. Doug spent his first year on the ranch calving, chasing cows, putting up hay and learning how to farm. In the spring, Doug would load up his good horse, Hank, and go to brandings where he got to visit with friends and neighbors. Later, Bud was his go to horse.

In 2003 Doug and Vicky bought the ranch, keeping it in the family to make Dillon the fifth generation.

While calving in the spring of 2015, Doug had a major disagreement with a mama cow. X-rays revealed no broken bones. Instead, it showed he had multiple myeloma. Dillon left his diesel career and returned home to the ranch.

Doug is survived by Vicky, his wife of 44 years, 4 months and 17 days; his son, Dillon; his sister, Sue (John) Travis; brothers, Larry (Eileen) Dahl and Marvin (Kimberly) Dahl; brother and sister-in-law, Boe and Nancy Knapp; his mother, Doris Dahl; his mother-in-law, Glenda Knapp; uncles, Mel (Di) Dahl and Roy (Terry) Dahl; and numerous nephews, nieces, friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dahl and father-in-law, Darvin Knapp.

A visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Wall.
