Charles "Jay" Keever

of Pierre, formerly of Murdo, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, January 24, 2024
at the Avera Maryhouse in Pierre at the age of 83

Charles J. Keever, better known as “Jay” by his family and friends, was born July 12, 1940 in Concord, California to Charles E. and Pauline (Collier) Keever. The family later moved to South Dakota where Jay was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church.

Jay joined the United States Army in 1963 and dealt with nuclear reactors. He was honorably discharged in 1965.

On March 22, 1962, Jay was united in marriage to Louise “Kay” Wedean in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple lived in the Pierre area as well as Washington, D.C. and Denver, Colorado. In 1973, they moved to Murdo, South Dakota.

Jay is survived by daughter Shelly Kay Manke (William Green) of Murdo; son Jason Patrick Keever of Broadus, Texas; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister Ramona Hight of Buffalo, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kay Keever on November 30, 1998; sister Donna Curry; sister-in-law Earlene Hullinger; and brothers-in-law Roy Hight and Ed Curry.

Interment with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 12-3 p.m. (Central Time) at the Buffalo Bar in Murdo, South Dakota.

Service Details
