Iva I. "Ivy" Brooksof Philip, South Dakota, died on Thursday, March 14, 2002

Iva I. "Ivy" Ellis was born June 27, 1913 at Palmyra, Missouri the daughter of James L. and Amy Irene (Coleman) Ellis. As a child she moved with her parents to the Cottonwood, SD community. She grew up and received her education in that area.
Ivy was united in marriage to Floyd S. Brooks on August 16, 1934 in the Black Hills of South Dakota. They made their home on a farm in the Philip area which they operated until moving to their present location on the west edge of Philip.
Her husband, Floyd preceded her in death on April 13, 1977.
Ivy obtained her GED in 1981 and also took the EMT course. She enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Bad River Dance Club and also the Bad River Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed horseback riding, camping and fishing. She loved adventure and enjoyed her ride in a hot air balloon and a glider plane.
Ivy was a member of the United Church of Philip and a former member of the Presbyterian Church where she had served with the Presbyterian ladies.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three sons, Richard D. Brooks of Philip, Robert B. "Bob" Brooks and his wife Lorraine of Rapid City, and Dennis F. Brooks and his wife Maryann of Crystal, Minnesota; two daughter, Jane Coleman and her husband Bob of Tacoma, Washington, and Raynae Richburg and her husband David Buchholz of Irvington, Alabama; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Ellis of Yellville, Arkansas, and Gerald Ellis of Troy, Missouri; three sisters, Pearl Sapp of Philadelphia, Missouri, Betty Vance of Hannibal, Missouri, and Mary Appl of Palmyra, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband Ivy was preceded in death by one son, Theodore Brooks; three grandsons, Steve Brooks, and twin grandsons in infancy; one granddaughter, Courtney Richburg; her parents; and one brother, Floyd Ellis.
Visitation was held 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2002 at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip, and one hour preceding the service at the church on Tuesday.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Al Brucklacher officiating.
Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.
