Charles L. "Larry" Fanningof Martin, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, July 27, 2011

Charles Loren Fanning, better known as Larry to his family and friends, was born March 1, 1934, in Martin, South Dakota, the son of Cameron and Marcella (McLaughlin) Fanning. He grew up in the Martin area graduating from Bennett County High School in 1950.
Larry enlisted in the US Army, and served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge Larry attended college at Cal Poly. Upon graduation he returned to Martin where he worked for the US Postal Service, and ranched three miles south of Martin on the Little White River. After retiring from the Post Office, he remained in Martin, selling the ranch in 2010.
During his lifetime Larry participated in many rodeos.
Survivors include five sons James Fanning and his wife Faye of Windsor, Colorado, Barry Fanning and his wife Lisa of Tacoma, Washington, Forrest Fanning of Rapid City, Steve Fanning of Sturgis, and Loren Fanning and his wife Tamra of Kennewick, Washington; two daughters Cindy Keegan and her husband Ken of Martin, and Andrea Hines and her husband Gary of Martin; nineteen grandchildren; one great-grandson; eleven siblings James Fanning of Martin, William “Bill” Fanning and his wife Philomen of Greely, Colorado, Frances Fanning and his wife Lloyd of Great Falls, Montana, Camillus Blair of Spearfish, Dennis Fanning and his wife Nellie of Camarillo, California, Virgil Fanning and his wife Fran of Rapid City, Butch Fanning and his wife Paulette of Vetal, South Dakota, Tony Fanning and his wife Lupita of Simi Valley, California, Paul Fanning and his wife MaryAnn of Tuthill, South Dakota, Robert “Bob” Fanning and his wife Cathy of Phoenix, Arizona, and Patricia Williams and her husband Lee of Moorcroft, Wyoming; two sister-in-laws Lorena Fanning of Longvalley and Jerry Fanning of Greeley, Colorado; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers Ronnie and Dick Fanning.
A rosary service was held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Martin.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Martin, with Father Bryan Sorensen as celebrant.
Interment with military honors by the Martin American Legion Post #240 was at the Martin Community Cemetery.
