Harold Stoddard, Sr.

of Martin, South Dakota, died on Tuesday, November 7, 2000
at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Rapid City at the age of 75

Harold K. Stoddard, Sr. was born April 16, 1925, at Mitchell, South Dakota, the son of Herbert E. and Inez H. (Cleveland) Stoddard.

Harold grew up on the Stoddard Ranch located seven miles north of Norris, South Dakota.  He graduated from White River High School in 1943.

Harold was united in marriage to Patricia Burke and to this union was born two sons.

He ranched with his father near Norris until 1950 when the family moved to Rapid City.  While in Rapid City, he worked as a police officer until 1960, when he purchased the Stoddard Ranch and returned to the Norris community.

After retiring from the ranch in 1986, he moved to Martin, South Dakota, where he has since resided.

Harold served on the Board of Directors of the Sundet Memorial Hospital in Kadoka for several years.  He was a member of the S.D. Peace Officers, the S.D. Stockgrowers, and was a member of the Elks Lodge of Winner, South Dakota.

Grateful for having shared his life are his special friends and companion, Dorothy Bradford of Martin; two sons, H. Keith Stoddard, Jr. of Rapid City and Joseph Stoddard and his wife, Linda, of Norris; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Sesso of Rapid City; several nieces and nephews; and a host of toher relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herbert Joseph Stoddard, who died during World War II.
