Zelda K. Van Ourkerk

of Philip, South Dakota, died on Wednesday, November 29, 1989
at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip at the age of 51

Zelda Kay Krebs was born September 3, 1938, at Quinn, South Dakota, to Herald and Alta (Melchert) Krebs.

She grew up in Quinn and graduated from Quinn High School in 1956. 

Zelda was united in marriage to Verlyn Duane Hook on July 16, 1956, at Rapid City, South Dakota.  They made their home in Philip, South Dakota, but Zelda continued to assist her father with the delivery of the rural mail in the Quinn area.

Her husband preceded her in death on December 15, 1969.  She continued to make her home in Philip.

Zelda was united in marriage to William "Bill" Van Ourkerk on February 25, 1972, at Rapid City, South Dakota.

They owned and operated the Park Inn Cafe in Philip from 1972 until 1988.  Zelda also was a sales representative for Avon in the Philip area for several years.

She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, was a member of the L.W.M.L. of the church where she served as treasurer, and also served as the church custodian for two years.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Bill Van Ourkerk of Philip; three sons, Tim Hook of Rapid City, Todd Hook of Philip, and William Tyler Van Ourkerk of Philip; five daughters, Tami (Mrs. Dale) Morrison of Philip, Twila (Mrs. Scott) Olivier of Philip, Verlynda Hook of Spearfish, and Billie Kay and Nicole Van Ourkerk, both of Philip; six grandchildren; her mother, Alta Krebs of Rapid City; six brothers, Mervyn Krebs and Donald Krebs, both of Rapid City, Leland Krebs of Lander, Wyoming, Douglas Krebs of Loveland, Colorado, Bart Krebs of Tacoma, Washington, and George Krebs of Black Hawk, South Dakota; two sisters, Yvonne Henthrone and Evelyn Warren, both of Rapid City; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her first husband, Verlyn, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Daylyn Bradley Morrison, and her father, Herald.
