Wanda L. Johnston

Wanda Lynn Hexum was born May 7, 1958, to Lowell and Joyce (Dorn) Hexum at Hendricks, Minnesota.

She grew up there and graduated from Hendricks High School in 1976.  Then she attended Mankato State University during the school year, and worked as a clerk at the Wall Drug Store in the summer months.

As a young lady she moved to Wall where she worked for her aunt and uncle, Phyllis and Les Johnson, at the Badlands Bar.  Later she worked for Butch Beach at the Cactus Cafe and Lounge.

Wanda was united in marriage to Charles "Chick" Johnston on November 30, 1983, at Rapid City, South Dakota.  They lived in Wall briefly before moving on to a ranch southwest of Interior, where they have since resided.

Wanda's love and care for children was her most important task, but she also continued to work part-time at the Badlands Bar and Cactus Cafe and Lounge.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Interior, South Dakota.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Charles "Chick" Johnston of Interior; one son, Eric Johnston, and two daughters, Katie and Cassie Johnston, all of Interior; her parents, Lowell and Joyce Hexum of Hendricks, Minnesota; one brother, Mike Hexum of Boulder, Colorado; three sisters, her twin sister, Wendy Sommervold of Longmont, Colorado, Cheryl (Mrs. Pat) Rogers of Mankato, Minnesota, and Jeanne (Mrs. David) Nielson of Aurora, South Dakota; her maternal grandmother, Bernice Dorn, and her paternal grandmother, Clara Hexum, both of Hendricks, Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Ole Hexum and Victor Dorn.
